JOSEY WELLZ - Mayor of Shreveport
The old adage born alone die alone became his motto. Instead of hating or being
envious he chose to focus on crafting and sharpening his rap skills so that when it
was time for him to touch down to the streets, he could represent for the ones who
“really been through it and really done it.
Within six months of his release The Mayor of Shreveport dropped one studio album
and seven mixed CDs. He also locked down a job at Shreveport's premier radio
station, 99.7 KMJJ(The Big Station) and performed at every venue in his vicinity.
Anticipation is running high for his new album aptly titled “The Mayor” which has no
release date yet, but is coming soon.
Josey also states emphatically “fuck the clique” that tried to blackball him, but one
look at his relentless grind and one has to ask he says “How can a real nigga come
home and make this kind of noise and at the same time not respect them and still get
in?"
As the mayor, he says his duties are to run the streets in strict accordance with USDA
guidelines. No snitching, no dry ratting, no selling dreams, no faking, no lying. “That's
why they HATE the Mayor because I don't let them slide by with that bullshit.”

While the world is focusing on Barack Obama
and Hillary Clinton, rapper Josey Wellz says
that since 2001, he’s been elected by the
streets as The Mayor of Shreveport.
The name Josey originated from the word
“joesing”, which can only be found in
Louisiana. It means doing time or being
locked up.
While serving time for armed robbery and
attempted first degree murder, Josey
witnessed a lot of rappers from his
hometown shine and help craft the current
hip hop scene that now has his city bubbling.
Josey could only respect it, but still felt that
no one knew of or thought about him, and
felt like a forgotten anchor at the bottom of
the sea.
